Heavy snowfall in neighboring countries finally hit Azerbaijan.

Since February 21, the unstable weather has hampered the daily life of residents in Baku.

The temperature stands at below zero. Meanwhile the gusty snowfall has increased the risks of road accidents.

On February 21-22, some 20 traffic accidents were reported in the capital leaving 11 people dead and 23 others injured. In the morning of February 23 because of sleet, seven road accidents were reported, said Vagif Asadov, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Baku city Main Traffic Police Department.

“The snow stopped, but icy patches remain on the roads. Now, the relevant services of Baku Executive Power as well as "Azeryolservis" are working to clear the roads,” he said.

The unstable weather has negatively affected the country’s regions. Lerik-Lankaran road was closed as heavy snow toppled over some trees. Some cars and minibuses are stranded on the roads.

The snow fall in Lerik was 55-60 cm, in remote areas 70-80 cm.

Now, there is no serious problem on the roads leading the country's regions and road employees have ensured stable traffic, said Kamran Aliyev, Spokesman for Interior Ministry's Central State Traffic Police Department.

The sleet is reported mainly on the roads of regions such as Guba, Khizi and Siyazan. Road workers now are working on eliminating the problems.

However, heavy snowfall and blizzard in Baku didn’t affect the Heydar Aliyev International Airport and it continued to carry out its flights regularly.

Synoptic has comforting news, as since February 23, the forecasters predicted softening of the weather and the temperature will rise in Azerbaijan. Only weak north wind will blow in Baku. No precipitation is expected.
