Azerbaijan and Turkey have decided to set up an international network for seismic studies, Director of the Regional Information Technologies Academy Tofig Babayev said.
The network will link the stations of monitoring system for the diagnosis and management "Robust Noise Monitoring" (RNM).
Turkey is interested in using the monitoring system for diagnosing and managing, he said. The international network of stations for data exchange will consist of two monitoring centers located in Baku and Istanbul.
"In July, Turkish scientists visited Baku and got acquainted with the work of the stations' equipment. They ascertained that the methodology proposed by the Institute of Management Systems of the National Academy of Sciences, can be used as a tool for creation of an international network and help seismologists more exactly define the sources and the strength of earthquakes," Babayev said.
Currently, seven stations are capable to detect the abnormal seismic processes and monitor them in Azerbaijan. These stations are located on the island of Qum in Neftchala, Naftalan, Shirvan, Siyazan, and Gazakh, one station is located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In addition, two stations will be installed in Khachmaz and Zagatala regions of Azerbaijan.
The two sides are expected to cover most of their lands with these stations, which will help determine the epicenters of earthquakes more accurately.
The stations that are functioning now are able to register the abnormal seismic processes for 15-20 hours prior to their surface manifestations.
The system provides transmission of the seismic acoustic signals directly to the server of the Cybernetics Institute. High-frequency satellite channels are used for signal transmission, which allows the institution to carry out experiments at a higher level and quality.
RNM technology also allows increasing the profitability of oil wells. The system facilitates identifying dynamometer cards, allowing saving power by more than 50 percent.
A pilot version of the Robust Noise Monitoring system was used in the 35 oil-producing facilities of Bibiheybat Oil and Gas Producing Enterprise.
