Armenian troops violates ceasefire as usual

13 January 2014 [11:45] - TODAY.AZ
The Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire again. As a result, an Azerbaijani soldier was wounded, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Monday.

Armenian armed forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces in Alibeyli village of the Tovuz region from the positions located in the village of Aygepar of Armenia's Berd region last night.

The shooting was countered by return fire.

Nineteen year old soldier Tapdig Ahadli was wounded as a result of ceasefire violation in the direction of the Tovuz region.

Ahadli was drafted into military service by the Ujar Region Department of the State Mobilization and Conscription Service in October 2013.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
