Optimistic future of multiculturalism is based on its progress, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Elshad Iskandarov said today.
"Today we all expect that the optimistic future of multiculturalism will be based on its progress, and of course where there's no such thing, we see the negativ examples of conflicts," Iskandarov said during the round table on "Multiculturalism and originality: in search of valuable consensus in society", organized within the Third Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
According to Iskandarov, the recent precedents worldwide, particularly in Europe, emphasize the seriousness of the dilemma in the diversity of religions.
"Our public institutions must be ready to demonstrate the moral sensitivity in this issue," Iskandarov said.
"The concept of tolerance as a way to avoid violence is also unacceptable for us," Iskandarov added. "The concept of respect and mutual respect is a part of what is happening in Azerbaijan."
