Shimal station generates over 23 bln kW / h of electricity since 2006

The Shimal power plant has generated more than 23.6 billion kilowatt/hours of electricity since 2006, "Azerenergy" (electricity generation and distribution) said today.

"Shimal" power station is essential in power supply of Baku, Baku settlements and Absheron peninsula in general.

According to the report, the second energy block is being constructed at the station. The construction of the second combined-cycle unit with a capacity of 409 megawatts was launched in 2011. The electricity commercial generation via the by the second block and its supply to the distribution network will start in 2014.

"The work will be improved and the security of the power system will be increased as a result of successful completion of this project," the report says.

The power generation capacity of power plants owned by "Azerenergy" is more than 6,000 megawatts.

There are more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kV, as well as 6 and 13 hydroelectric power plants on the balance of the company.
