If all sides are active and Turkey supports Azerbaijan in this issue, a single textbook on the history of the Turkic world in the Middle Ages can be written within two to three years, the Director of the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Yagub Mahmudov told Trend.
The scientist believes that the teaching of the common history of the Turkic peoples should begin in secondary school.
Makhmudov said since most of the Turkic world's achievements were made in the Middle Ages, development of a textbook on general Turkic history of the Middle Ages should be set up as a goal.
In his words, although Turkish scientists have repeatedly been informed on this issue, they haven't been very active.
Mahmudov said in order to prepare a common history of the Turkic peoples, the general interests of the Turkic world have to be represented, putting aside local interests. For example, the attitude of Turkish historians should be changed to the leader of the Turkish Tatar-Mongol leader Timur (Tamerlane), as well as to the rulers of the Safavid state Shah Ismail, Ag-Goyunlu state Uzun Hasan and other historical figures of Turkic world.
