Azerbaijani pilgrim Sura Asgerova died in the Iraqi city of Karbala, Iraqi Embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend on Wednesday.
According to the embassy, the death of 75-year-old pilgrim was caused presumably by heart attack. Azerbaijani pilgrims, who came with Asgerova to Karbala, buried her in the Iraqi city of Jassan.
As a result, when departing from Iraq, a group of pilgrims was arrested at the border in order to clarify the incident. After intervention of the Iraqi Embassy in Azerbaijan and personally ambassador Haidar Al-Barrak, who contacted the head of Iraq's border police, the pilgrims left Iraq and entered Iranian territory.
Pilgrims' trip to Karbala was organized by the Iraqi tourist company "Aksar", which also has office in Azerbaijan.
