Ancient artifacts found in Azerbaijan

21 June 2012 [17:19] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani National Academy of Science (ANAS) reported about two archaeological finds revealed in the Agsu region of Azerbaijan.

According to the report, one of them was found during excavations carried out for the construction of the second water supply system from the Kyulyulyu spring in the lower reaches of Girdmanchay. The excavator met with an obstacle, particularly a jug burial. Skeleton of a man was found in the jug burial.

The other archaeological find was discovered at a depth of one meter far from the Sheikh Majid cemetery. The remains of the structure of the raw bricks and stones were found here.

A primary research on the findings was already carried out under the supervision of the member of the Agsu archaeological expedition, Doctor of Historical Sciences Gafar Jabiyev

According to initial results, the jug burial refers to the last period of ancient and early medieval times. Another finding, which is presumably the ruins of the mosque, belongs to the XIV-XVI centuries. These findings suggest that the urban development culture in Agsu has ancient roots.
