Digital map of Absheron archipelago created

Scientists of Geology Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences composed digital map of the bottom of Absheron archipelago Geology Institute Director Akif Alizade said at the press conference held on the outcomes of 2011.

He said in 2011 the institute together with the Institute of Geography of ANAS continued the research of “GIS analysis of the Caspian sea environment” with using “Remote probing and information of sea’s investigations” which financed by Ukraine Science and Investigation Centre (USIC-ANAS). As a result of this work data base of hydro meteorology parameters of the Caspian region was created, digital map of the bottom of Absheron archipelago was composed with showing submarine volcanoes and sources of anthropogenic pollution. Oil spots of Baku Bay and Absheron archipelago were discovered in the map and estimated in quantitative.
