Turkish President Abdullah Gül held a phone conversation with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama late Wednesday.
Sources from the Turkish Presidency told the Anatolia news agency that President Gül and Obama exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues.
The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee is scheduled to vote Thursday on a resolution calling for formal U.S. recognition of World War I-era killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as “genocide.”
The fact that Gül spoke to Obama on the eve prior to the vote was noteworthy, said officials.
