Armenian opposition intends to send Serj after Tigran

04 April 2014 [13:14] - TODAY.AZ
The opposition Armenian National Congress headed by ex-President Levon Ter-Petrosyan is considering the prime minister's resignation as the first step in the power change process in the country , Interfax agency reported on April 4.

"The authorities have never been so weak," head of the Armenian National Congress parliamentary faction Levon Zurabyan told Haylur agency. "There is an opportunity to change the power now. The resignation of the government is the first stage of the power change. We are entering the next stage, namely to force President Sargsyan to resign."

Four opposition factions of the Armenian Parliament, namely, 'Armenian National Congress', 'Prosperous Armenia', 'Heritage' and 'Dashnaktsutyun' previously stated that they intend to declare a vote of no confidence in the government and demand the resignation of the prime minister at a meeting of the legislative body on April 28. The opposition factions accused the prime minister of the economic policy failure and opposed the government's introduction of the mandatory accumulative pension system.

"The preliminary work on holding the rallies calling for the government resignation was in full swing," Zurabyan said. "For this reason, President Sargsyan forced the prime minister to write a resignation statement. The authorities tried to soften the national uprising and stop holding the rallies by this action."

He also stated that the achievement of the Armenian president's resignation is the sole purpose of the opposition's further actions.
