Azerbaijan in spotlight of influential Argentine newspaper

The influential Argentine newspaper “Clarin”, being one of the largest Spanish-language editions in the world, published an article of the ambassador of Azerbaijan in Argentina Mammad Ahmedzade titled “The Azerbaijani Ambassador Declares”.

In the article, the diplomat on the basis of the facts proves that Nagorno Karabakh historically is the Azerbaijani territory. The Armenians have stated their claims for the historical Azerbaijani lands after the conclusion between Russia and Iran in 1813 and 1828, accordingly, the Gulistan and Turkmenchai treaties, and also after the Russian-Turkish war in 1828-1829s of mass resettlement of the Armenians from Iran and Ottoman Empire on the Azerbaijani lands, basically in the territory of Irevan, Nakhchivan and Karabakh khanates.

The article narrates that creation the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) as a part of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic happened on July 7, 1923, the step to ensure interests of the Armenians. The Azerbaijani diplomat noted that during the last years territorial claims of Armenia to Azerbaijan, basically, to NKAO were activated, and in parallel with it more than 200 thousand Azerbaijanis were deported from Armenia.

The author of article tells about the occupational policy of Armenia which has been carried out after collapse of the Soviet Union against Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani diplomat notes that occupation by the Armenian side of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and seven adjacent regions, carrying out of ethnic cleaning in the occupied territories as a result of which about 1 million citizens of Azerbaijan became refugees and IDPs, is the consequence of this aggression. Armenia in the occupied Azerbaijani territories has established a separatist regime.

In article also it is underlined that Armenia still ignores numerous resolutions and documents adopted by Security Council and General Assembly of the United Nations, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and other international organizations that supported territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The documents demand immediate withdrawal of the armed forces of Armenia from territories of Azerbaijan and returning of the Azerbaijani refugees to their homelands.
