
The EU Delegation stands ready to assist Azerbaijan to meet the challenges and opportunities resulting from its new status, the EU Baku office's statement on the election of Azerbaijan to a non permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council reads.
"The EU delegation looks forward to enhanced cooperation and closer dialogue on all international issues," the statement reads.
It congratulated Azerbaijan on its election as a non-permanent UNSC member for the period of 2012-2013. Acknowledging the efforts of the Government of Azerbaijan, 155 countries voted in favour of the country in a key international organization.
In this new context, the EU Delegation welcomes the country's commitments to the United Nations' values and principles of peace and democracy which are shared by the EU, the statement reads.
Azerbaijan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013, gaining 155 votes from the UN member countries.
