Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov has been today summoned to this country's Foreign Ministry, where the Iranian side handed over a protest note to him regarding the incident at the Azerbaijani-Iranian border, as a result of which an Iranian border guard was killed, İRİB News reported.

The note states that the Azerbaijani border guards' acts are a violation of international laws, damages bilateral agreements and good neighborly relations.

The Iranian side has demanded the punishment of perpetrators of the incident.
Akhundov expressed regret over the incident and promised to send a protest note to the country's official authorities.

An armed incident took place between Azerbaijan border guards and a violator on the Iranian border. The State Border Service said the incident happened at 14.00 on Oct.19 at a frontier post at the Aranli village in the Bilasuvar region.

Additional reinforcements were sent to the scene and search operations were launched. The intruder, who was wearing military uniform was seen only 1200 metres from the state border.

He refused to obey a number of warnings resulting in the Azerbaijani side guards using firearms against him when he attacked the border officials. The intruder died on the way to hospital, the law enforcement agencies said on Thursday.
