ISESCO marks 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence

The 20th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan`s independence was celebrated in the permanent headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Morocco`s capital Rabat. The celebration took place as part of the second meeting of the Alliance of Civilizations Focal Points of the OIC Member States.

Addressing the meeting`s opening ceremony, Director General of ISESCO Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri said that Azerbaijan Embassy in Morocco has organized a photo exhibition to the effect in the foyer of the permanent headquarters. Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri congratulated Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Azeri people on the 20th Anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence.

“I hope that ISESCO and the OIC Member States will support Azerbaijan`s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council for 2012-2013,” he added. Director General of ISESCO also underlined the importance of intercultural dialogue and the alliance of civilization, in such a way as to promote world peace and security, and lay the foundations for a humane new world order, drawing on the bases of international law, international legality and human rights protection.

A film on modern Baku was demonstrated in the event. Booklets on the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence aroused interest among participators. Moroccan Arabian-language Al-Alam newspaper and French-language La pnion published Azerbaijani ambassador`s interviews on the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence.

According to Azerbaijan Embassy in Morocco, a two-day meeting brings together representatives of the OIC Member States, Morocco`s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mrs Latifa Akherbach, officials, ambassadors of the OIC Member States in Rabat and mass media.
