
Azerbaijan is working to protect the Caspian Sea environment, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told journalists.
He said the work also includes the protection and breeding of sturgeon, as well as development of legal framework to protect the Caspian Sea environment.
"Protecting the Caspian Sea environment is a common cause. Azerbaijan carries out extensive work in this area," Khalafov said.
The Caspian states' cooperation in this field were mulled, Framework Convention was signed and a series of protocols aimed at intensifying joint efforts to improve the ecology were adopted.
The littoral countries are Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
