Austrian President embarks on official Azerbaijan visit - UPDATE - PHOTOS

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva hosted Wednesday an official dinner in honor of visiting President of Austria Heinz Fischer and his spouse Margit Fischer.

In their speeches, Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Heinz Fischer expressed their satisfaction with highly developing relations. The parties stressed importance of the Austria-Azerbaijan business forum, which will boost the economic cooperation between the two states.

President of Austria Heinz Fischer and his spouse Margit Fischer yesterday visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The Austrian President and his spouse were welcomed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.

President Ilham Aliyev briefed the Austrian counterpart on the activity of the Foundation.
Heinz Fischer was told the main goal of the Foundation, established in the memory of the Azerbaijani people`s national leader, is to study and popularize prominent political figure Heydar Aliyev`s rich heritage, give an idea to the future generations and foreign visitors about his large-scale activity to achieve Azerbaijan`s socio-economic, cultural progress, and assist projects promoting the country`s history and culture.

The President saw exhibits taken from the archive of the great leader and reflecting his childhood, youth, university years and career, pictures covering the very various moments of his life and giving a comprehensive idea of the whole history of Azerbaijan, photos taken with figures of science, culture and art, leaders of different countries.

President Heinz Fischer signed the Foundation`s Guest Book.
The Austrian President was presented with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s keepsake.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Heinz Fischer yesterday inaugurated a monument to genius Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Baku. The presidents were informed about the land improvements made around the monument.

The Austrian Federal President met prominent cultural figures of Azerbaijan. The presidents laid flowers at the monument. Presidents Aliyev and Fischer spoke at the event. The presidents posed for photographs together with prominent cultural figures. They also listened to genius Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli`s “Arazbari” work.

President of Austria Heinz Fischer has today visited the International Mugham Center. The President was informed that the construction of the Center was initiated by the First Lady of Azerbaijan, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva following the April 6, 2005 Order of the President of Azerbaijan on construction of an International Mugham Center in Baku. He was told the Center opened on December 27, 2008.

The International Mugham Center has a 350-seat concert hall, club, restaurant, classrooms and recording studio. The Austrian President viewed busts of renowned Azerbaijani performers on the foyer. President Fischer toured the Center and listened to the young mugham performers.

Following a ceremony of signing of Azerbaijan-Austria documents, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Heinz Fischer of Austria held a joint press conference.

A signing ceremony of Azerbaijan-Austria documents was held in Baku with participation of Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Heinz Fischer of Austria. Rector of Azerbaijan Tourism Institute Jafar Jafarov and executive director of Krems University of Applied Sciences Heinz Boyer signed an agreement of cooperation between the Krems University of Applied Sciences and Azerbaijan Tourism Institute.

President of Azerbaijan State Oil Company Rovnag Abdullayev and head of board of directors for gas and energy issues of OMV Company Gerhard Roiss signed a memorandum of understanding on energy projects between SOCAR and OMV.

Azerbaijan`s minister for communication and information technologies Ali Abbasov and chief of Austria`s federal Ministry for Transport, Innovations and Technology Andreas Reinhard signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in a field of innovations and information technologies between the Azerbaijan`s ministry for communication and information technologies and Ministry for Transport, Innovations and Technology of Austria.

Azerbaijan`s minister of finance Samir Sharifov and Austrian deputy minister of finance Andreas Schieder signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Azerbaijan`s ministry of finance and Austrian ministry of finance.

Following a one-on-one meeting, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Heinz Fischer of Austria met in presence of both countries` delegations.

“I am sure the results of your visit will be successful,” said President Aliyev at the meeting.
The Head of State pointed out the countries are going to discuss Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, energy cooperation, and economic activity.

“I know there common interests in the economic field. Business meetings will be held. We have good results in the cultural field,” said the Azerbaijani leader.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation and expressed hope for better results of Austrian President`s visit, which contribute to deepening bilateral ties.

“I remember the Austria visit of your father in 2000. Many changes have occurred during the past eleven years. Your country made huge steps in terms of development,” said the Austrian President.

He noted the Austrian delegation includes politicians, diplomats as well as businessmen, scientists, tourism experts.

Successful development of bilateral ties in a variety of fields, including policy and economy was stressed at the meeting. The parties expressed assurance Azerbaijan-Austria relations would continue to develop successfully.

The importance of Austrian President`s official visit to Azerbaijan for developing the relationship between the two countries was highlighted during the meeting. The Heads of States shared their opinions on the regional and international issues.

President of Austria Heinz Fischer has today been given an official welcome to Azerbaijan.
A guard of honor was lined up for the Austrian President at the square decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Heinz Fischer and his spouse Margit Fischer was welcomed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The Heads of State inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as an orchestra played the national anthems of Austria and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to President Heinz Fischer, while members of the Austrian delegation to President Ilham Aliyev.

The presidents and their spouses posed for photographs.

President of Austria Heinz Fischer yesterday arrived in Azerbaijan for an official visit. A guard of honor was lined up for the Austrian President at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Heinz Fischer was welcomed here by First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and other officials.

The Austrian leader and First Deputy Premier Yagub Eyyubov had a brief meeting at the airport`s VIP room.
