Zaman newspaper publishes article on 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence

Turkish Zaman newspaper has published an article by Azerbaijani MP Musa Gasimli on the 20th anniversary of restoration of Azerbaijan`s independence. The article, called “20 years of Azerbaijan`s independence: From the Soviet Union to an Independent state”, features a thorough analysis of Azerbaijan`s path to independence since 1991.

It highlights the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, its occupation by the Soviet Army, problems and challenges faced by Azerbaijan in first years of independence, and Heydar Aliyev`s role in restoring the country`s independence.

The article also highlights the Black January events of 1990 and Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including the occupation of Azerbaijan`s lands and Khojaly genocide.

In his article, Gasimli also notes Azerbaijan`s achievements, saying the country is the regional leader and initiator of all energy and ICT projects in the region.
