Drug cultivation and trafficking in Armenian-occupied territories of Azerbaijan raised in PACE

PACE should take actions to prevent the drug cultivation and trafficking in the Armenian- occupied territories of Azerbaijan, a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Assembly, Rafael Huseynov said in his question the Chairman of the CoE Committee of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Konstantin Grishchenko.

"According to official information received from sources in Armenia, drug trafficking has increased two times over the recent period and although registered drug addicts total 1,717 people in Armenia, according to international organizations, their number has reached 4,000. That is, every 300th resident of Armenia is drug addict," said Huseynov.

According to him, one of the main sources of this distress is growing and organization of unhindered drug trafficking in the Armenian-occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

"What steps can the Committee of Ministers take to stop these processes, which impose a threat to the South Caucasus and as a whole to Europe?" said Huseynov.

According to Grishchenko, this issue is considered constantly.

"At the moment we are not prepared to give a complete answer to this question related to this sensitive issue. This is a very important issue and should be discussed by the Committee of Ministers and as a result of these discussions and investigations, an appropriate response shall be prepared," said Grishchenko.
