September 15 marks liberation day of Baku

15 September 2011 [16:23] - TODAY.AZ
15 September marks one of the significant, honorable and memorable days in history of Azerbaijani people and state.

Caucasus Muslims Army consisting of Azerbaijani-Turkish (Ottoman) military forces under the command of Nuru Pasha eradicated the rule of Centrocaspian Dictatorship in Baku and evicted Dashnak forces from the country.

Baku was ruled by Baku Commune run by bloodthirsty Shaumyan in April-July 1918 and by Centrocaspi government formed by Russian Socialist-Revolutionaries, the Mensheviks and the Armenian Dashnaks with backing of the British Empire from 1 August.

The last unit of British soldiers left Baku a day before the attack of Caucasus Islam Army on Baku. The liberation of Baku opened an honorable page in history of Azerbaijan’s independence. So, the national government moved from Ganja to Baku and Baku was declared capital of the Azerbaijan People’s Republic.
