
The counselor of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN, Yusuf Mammadaliyev, drew the attention of the UN Security Council on the need for strict adherence to the principles and Charter of the United Nations, particularly, to the state sovereignty.
Azerbaijan has suffered from a war and is in close proximity to other conflicts, Mammadaliyev said speaking at the debate over the UN peacekeeping operations, the UNSC official website reported.
Mammadaliyev underscored that a particular attention should be paid to issues of international humanitarian law and human rights in this regard. He also expressed support for closer cooperation and dialogue among all partners in the peacekeeping operations, with the increased participation of countries providing troops and police.
He also stated about Azerbaijan’s commitment to peace in the region, which has contributed to the UN peacekeeping activity.
