“Our position concerning the activity of PACE rapporteur on the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan Christopher Strasser is not changed”, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov said.
He said Azerbaijan didn’t agree with the Strasser’s appointment and considered it as an ill-affected approach. “The question is not about the rapporteur’s visit here. The question is about that we have successful cooperation with the Council of Europe, but we will never accept ill-affected approach and double standard. I consider that the Council of Europe understands it. We will express our opinion in the PACE’s next session”.
Seyidov said it was not correct to appoint additional rapporteurs because there were two monitoring committees on Azerbaijan. “We are constructively working with these committees. The work of monitoring committees’ rapporteurs covers the issues of human rights, democratic development and the problem of Nagorno Karabakh. It is not constructive to discuss these issues in other course”.
