Ruling party: Azerbaijani opposition's attempts to create 'alternative parliament' result from idleness

25 August 2011 [08:30] - TODAY.AZ
The aspirations of the Azerbaijani opposition to continually create some kinds of organizations come from idleness, deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Siyavush Novruzov told Trend on Wednesday, expressing his attitude towards the desire of opposition parties to create "Alternative parliament".

"The Republic of Azerbaijan has its own parliament, the MPs, elected by the people, work there who are working to improve the welfare of the people," said Novruzov.

He said the people who never gained popular support, who never had a chance to win elections, rather than dealing with work, make such actions in order to remain on the agenda. Novruzov considers that there are no areas where they could successfully prove themselves.

"The Azerbaijani opposition is busy with only creating one-off organizations. They do this in order to remain on the agenda and not go away from the pages of newspapers," said the MP.
He said in fact, the parties have other functions.

"The parties should engage in training, presentation of alternative projects to society, and similar matters. So far, none of these organizations engage in such activities. They do just idle chatter. All of this is connected with their inactivity. I believe that they are committing a senseless act," Novruzov said.

Some Azerbaijani opposition parties want to create an "Alternative parliament" of 125 people.
