
“Latvia is interested in development of bilateral relations and boost cooperation within the framework the Eastern Partnership Program with Azerbaijan,” vice president of the Baltic Assembly and head of the Latvian delegation to the organization Janis Reirs said in a meeting with the chairman of economic policy standing committee of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, academician Ziyad Samedzade.
During the meeting, Samedzade spoke of the history of Latvian-Azeri relations, noting expansion of these relations after Azerbaijan restored its independence. He briefed the Latvian official on economic reforms and achievements in Azerbaijan.
The member of Azerbaijani parliament said Azerbaijan had become the leading country of the region and initiator of large-scale regional projects. Azerbaijan`s currency reserves exceeded $30 billion, share of private sector in gross domestic product (GDP) is 8 percent, he added.
Samedzade noted his country was interested in cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other spheres with Latvia.
In his turn, Reirs said many things had changed in Baku since his last visit. He noted we had eye-witnessed strong growth in Azerbaijan.
The Latvian official noted Azerbaijan plays an important role in the European energy security.
The parties exchanged views on role of the parliaments in development of relations, regional processes and Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
