
Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met with Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Trinidad Jimenez on June 16 during his official visit to Spain.
Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said that Mammadyarov thanked for inviting him to the first official visit to Spain. He emphasized a large potential for the development of bilateral cooperation in various spheres. Mrs. Jimenez, in her turn, spoke about the willingness of the Spanish companies to work together with Azerbaijan in energy and other fields. The sides agreed to strengthen contractual basis between the two countries and to hold Azerbaijan-Spanish business forum soon.
Mammadyarov informed his counterpart in details about the negotiations over the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict. They also discussed the latest development in North Africa and Middle East.
Mammadyarov invited Mrs. Jimenez to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan. Jimenez accepted the invitation and said she would visit Azerbaijan by the end of this year.
Following the meeting, the ministers signed an agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Kingdom of Spain on short-term visa-free travels for holders of diplomatic passports.
Then Minister Mammadyarov met with president of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Spanish Congress of Deputies Duran i Lleida and members of the commission. Some of the Spanish deputies said they visited Azerbaijan within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation and witnessed the highest rate of development in Azerbaijan. They said they are interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan not only in the energy field, but also other spheres.
Mammadyarov answered the deputies’ questions and informed them about the recent negotiations over the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
