10 June 2011 [15:30] - TODAY.AZ
Representatives of World Affairs Council of America (WACA) met with the members of the "Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan Republic" NGO.

Head of the community, Shusha governor Bayram Safarov briefed WACA representatives on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, measures the government of Azerbaijan takes to settle the problem and provided detailed information on the activity of the community.
Speaking at the meeting, Azeri MPs Rovshan Rzayev and Elman Mammadov expressed their confidence that WACA would educate the world community about Azerbaijani realities.

In her turn, president of the WACA Lori Murray spoke of her organization's activity. She said WACA is the largest nonpartisan, non-profit grassroots organization in the United States dedicated to educating and engaging the American public on global issues, adding over 500,000 people a year benefit from the network programming, including members and participants.

The national office of the WACA works to develop new program opportunities to distribute to member councils. This includes a variety of national program series, an annual national conference, five flagship programs, Leadership Missions to other countries, and other opportunities.

A leadership mission is an overseas fact-finding visit to a city, country, or international organization by a national leadership delegation of the World Affairs Council movement. The main purposes are to get to know the people, the issues, and the problems of the city, the country or the organization first-hand and to establish a much greater connection between the country and a well-informed and influential part of the American public.

Attending the meeting, Emmit Richard McHaffie, Azerbaijan's Honorary Consul to the city of Santa Fe, US, said he had witnessed great changes in Baku since his last visit.
