28 April 2011 [09:48] - TODAY.AZ
Kazakhstan considers Azerbaijan as a key partner in the Caucasus, the chairman of the Kazakh Majilis Ural Mukhamedzhanov said during a meeting with a delegation of Azerbaijani parliamentarians headed by the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov in Astana yesterday.

Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis stressed the high level of bilateral cooperation. The permanent and frequent contacts of the two presidents give a powerful impetus to this cooperation.

"Thousands of Kazakhs and Azeris consider both countries as their home," he said.

The chairman of the Majilis said that the representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, including 85,000 people living in Kazakhstan, is an important "bridge" that contribute significantly to the socio-economic and social development of our country.

"This is our golden bridge," Mukhamedzhanov said.

The main topic of the talks conducted in the Kazakhstani parliament was the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking countries (TurkPA) established on the initiative of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Welcoming the delegation members of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Ural Mukhamedzhanov stressed that it is a great honor for Kazakh parliamentarians to receive Azerbaijani counterparts in Astana as participants of the TurkPA meeting.

"The age-old relations of brotherhood and good neighborliness strengthen our peoples," he said.

They also spoke about the active development of the interparliamentary relations between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, both bilaterally and within international parliamentary organizations. The relations are dynamically developing between the ruling parties of both countries.
Oktay Asadov stressed the importance of TurkPA in strengthening the close ties between Turkic nations.

"Our common goal is to form the mechanism of the inter-parliamentary relations, to bring the political views together, to exchange the information, to promote the Turkish culture, to expand the economic ties, to implement the joint projects and to find solutions to the problems of the Turkic world," Asadov said.

Both sides expressed the unanimous opinion that TurkPA must hold a special place due to its potential among other prestigious international institutions such as the European Parliament, the OSCE PA, the OIC Parliamentary Union, having a rich history and experience of developing the interparliamentary relations.
