French Senator Nathalie Goulet said historical facts must be investigated by historians, not politicians. She said both chambers of the French parliament are required to approve a bill in order to pass a law.
"The assembly passed a bill on the ‘Armenian Genocide,’ but the senate did not. As a senator, I am sure historians should investigate historical facts, not politicians," Goulet said at the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.
She said the Armenian lobby is influential in France and it is possible that after the elections, this issue will again be raised in parliament.
Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that the Turkish Ottoman Empire committed "genocide" against Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915.
A group of French socialist deputies proposed submitting the bill for debate to Senate on May 4.
