Speaker of Milli Majlis meets President of Greece

Yesterday as part of his official visit to Azerbaijan, President of Greece Karolos Papoulias visited Azeri Parliament, the Milli Majlis. The President was welcomed by the speaker of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov and other officials.

The Speaker of the Azerbaijan Parliament emphasized that reciprocal visits of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Greece contribute to the development of relations between two countries in all spheres. The Speaker said that Azerbaijan is an initiator of a major regional energy and transport projects, playing an important role in the European energy security. The Speaker also underscored the role of parliaments in development of interstate ties.

Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Ogtay Asadov pointed out that settlement of the dispute must be based on strict maintenance of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Asadov also expressed hope that the position of Greece regarding the Nagorno Karabakh dispute will not change.

President of Greece, in turn, said his country is interested in development of relations with Azerbaijan. Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, President Karolos Papoulias said his country is an adherent of peaceful solution of this conflict.
