
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elkhan Polukhov was on a working visit to Italy at the invitation of the Italian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maurizio Massari on March 9-10, the ministry said.
The sides exchanged views on the foreign ministries’ press services’ activities, the obtained experience, as well as plans for the future during the meeting held on March 9. The meeting also stressed the importance of intensification of work to raise public awareness of both states on Azerbaijan and Italy, respectively. In this regard, the organization of mutual visits of representatives of the press services of both countries was discussed.
On the same day Polukhov met with experts from leading research centers of the country, university teachers and students at the Link Campus University’s Center for Strategic Studies. The Center’s director Luigi Sergio Germani, who welcomed the Azerbaijani diplomat, underlined the historical relations between Azerbaijan and Italy and stressed a great interest of Italian scientific community to Azerbaijan.
Later Polukhov spoke about the main directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. The history and reasons of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as well as Azerbaijan’s position which is based on norms and principles of the international law during the negotiation process were brought to the attention of the attendees.
The event also discussed Azerbaijan's energy policy, Azerbaijani-Italian, as well as Azerbaijan-European Union relations. Azerbaijan's ambassador to Italy Vagif Sadigov also attended the meetings.
Polukhov met with journalists of the Italian leading information agencies, gave interview on the country’s foreign policy and answered their questions on March.
