Vatican intends to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan

The prospects of further cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Vatican in the field of culture were discussed by Azerbaijani Ambassador, the Holy See Elchin Amirbekov with the Vatican's Culture Minister Gianfranco Ravasi.

The purpose of the meeting was to exchange views on prospects for further cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture of the Vatican, he told Trend.

He said that Ravasi, mentioning the exceptional role of Azerbaijan in the context of promoting a cultural dialogue, once again stressed that Azerbaijan is an example of tolerance. Ravasi praised the current level of bilateral cooperation, including the areas of culture, and expressed willingness to facilitate the implementation of new projects for cooperation, the ambassador said.

Recalling the recent visit of Minister to Baku, Azerbaijani ambassador expressed the wish to continue the contacts in the future. The diplomat presented several new projects for cooperation in the cultural sphere to Minister of Culture of the Vatican.

The parties have agreed to begin the practical implementation of these projects soon.

"The Cardinal asked to convey his best wishes to the leadership of Azerbaijan, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the support in preserving the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, and not only Azerbaijan. He also expressed hope that concrete practical and mutually beneficial cooperation will be established between the Ministry of Culture and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation," Amirbekov said.
