Foreign Relations Commission of the Spanish Parliament rejected a proposal on recognition of "Armenian genocide" claims, Turkey’s Anatolian news agency reports.
Two lawmakers voted for, but 31 against the proposal made by the Catalonian Republican Party (ERC).
Only Basque Nationalist Movement (PNV) supported the proposal, but ruling Socialist Labor Party (PSOE), main oppositionist People Party (PP), Catalonia-based Convergence and Union Coalition (CiU) and Navarrese People’s Union (UPN) rejected it.
PSOE spokesperson Isabel Pozuelo said during discussions that there is no relation between the current problems of Armenia and recognition of events happened a century ago by Spain. Pozuelo urged Armenia to solve Nagorno Karabakh problem with Azerbaijan and to carry out political reforms to be close to European Union.
