James Appathurai: Azerbaijan is very important for NATO

Azerbaijan is very important for NATO, Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia told APA's Washington DC correspondent.

James Appathurai, who is visiting the US capital, specifically underscored NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation in Afghanistan campaign. Speaking about the regional problems, as well as the frozen conflicts James Appathurai mentioned that the globally increasing conflicts are the bases of NATO's future activities.

"It is unfortunate that the ways of salvation weren’t determined yet", he stressed.

Within the visit, Appathurai held meetings in several US Departments, including the Pentagon, and delivered a speech at the John Hopkins University, where he explained the "New Security Challenges, New NATO" policy to the analysts on South Caucasus and Central Asia regions.

The NATO's priorities in both regions and integration issues also were on the agenda of the visit.
