Azerbaijani presidential administration: Fair judicial system is one of important conditions for fighting corruption

03 March 2011 [20:23] - TODAY.AZ
One of the important conditions for fighting corruption is to create a fair, impartial and independent judiciary, Chief of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Law Enforcement Agencies Work Department Fuad Alasgarov said in an interview with the Azerbaijan newspaper.

"Transformations carried out in recent years in the judiciary system are aimed at eliminating these negative aspect," he said.

Alasgarov said individuals and legal entities can directly apply to the Judicial Council in connection with offenses related to corruption of judges.

Alasgarov noted that the Law on Administrative Procedure, which started to function this year, aims to regulate relations between citizens and the state in the framework of administrative proceedings, as well as to facilitate and enhance the fruitfulness of the administration.

The legislation defines the legal bases and principles of administrative bodies concerning the adoption, execution and cancellation of administrative acts.

Alasgarov believes it is wrong to link the ongoing fight against corruption in the country with a grant from the World Bank. He said the country cooperates with international organizations in many areas, including in the fight against corruption, and this cooperation will continue in the future.

"We consider the fight against corruption as an integral part of the public policy. This struggle did not begin today and it continues for several years! Existing and ongoing activities in the future represent new quality content. Our goal is to achieve higher social welfare and the rule of law that can ensure economic development in the country," he added.
