
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov met Hungarian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zsolt Nemeth on Friday.
Khalafov praised the political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Hungary both bilaterally and within international organizations.
Nemeth said his country attaches great importance to development of relations with Azerbaijan. He said Azerbaijan was a country of strategic importance, and plays special role in energy security of Europe. The Minister of State noted Hungary was interested in energy cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly realization of South Corridor project. He also underlined the importance of reciprocal high-level visits.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said official Budapest supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. Nemeth also added the European Union must put more emphasis on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Khalafov, in turn, thanked the Hungarian government for backing Azerbaijan`s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He described the conflict as a threat to not only Azerbaijan, but the whole region. The Deputy Minister added the world community must put more pressure on Armenia to stop the occupation policy against Azerbaijan and demonstrate constructive position.
They also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
