Special envoy: EU to continue actively participating in South Caucasus processes

25 February 2011 [12:07] - TODAY.AZ
The EU will continue actively participating in the South Caucasus processes, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby said.

He said that Brussels continues discussions about the format of the EU in the region, Mediamax reported.

"I am confident that the European Union will be represented in the South Caucasus at a sufficient level. The EU will continue paying attention to the range of problems I have dealt with - the Karabakh conflict, Armenian-Turkish relations, the talks about the Association Agreement and other issues," he said.

Regarding his activity as the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, held since 2006, Semneby noted that this was a difficult period for the region. In particular, he drew attention to the serious internal political crisis in Armenia in March 2008 and the war between Russia and Georgia.

Semneby expressed his opinion that during this period the EU's role in the region has increased.
