Azerbaijan, Cuba confer on bilateral cooperation

Visiting Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla met Thursday with Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov to explore opportunities to further bilateral cooperation.

The speaker noted both countries enjoy long history of relations. Azerbaijan and Cuba had good scientific, cultural and educational ties in as early as Soviet era. Hundreds of Cuban young people are pursuing their studies at the higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan.

Talks held during reciprocal visits of government and state officials, documents signed open up new avenues for expansion of cooperation. The speaker highlighted the role of parliaments in development of interstate relations. He welcomed creation of friendship groups in both countries` parliaments.

The speaker informed the Cuban FM on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and thanked him for the stance concerning solution of the problem and for support of Azerbaijan`s right cause.

Parilla pointed out Cuba is interested in scaling up relations with Azerbaijan, adding the current visit helps to expand bilateral ties. The Minister thanked Azerbajian`s government and people for supporting his country`s stance on some international matters.

Discussions were also concerned with prospects for development bilateral cooperation, reciprocal visits and other issues.
