The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are in full compliance with European standards, European parliamentarians reiterated during discussions on the report on observation of the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan held on the first day of the PACE winter session in Strasbourg.
Polish MP Tadeusz Ivinski noted some colleagues expressed discontent with the report saying it is biased. For his part, Ivinski called it “balanced”.
He underlined the PACE mission observed the run-up to the election and voting process and described participation of all parties in the elections as a “positive” fact, saying unlike previous elections, this process marked notable changes and improvement of electoral system.
Ivinski also pointed to some minor shortcomings including low involvement of some parties, opening of some polling stations earlier than required and lack of some names in the voters' lists.
Speakers noted the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan totally met Council of Europe's requirements and European standards.
