19 January 2011 [17:55] - TODAY.AZ
Special Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Christoph Strasser didn’t apply the Azerbaijan’s embassy in Germany for visa, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elkhan Polukhov said.

Strasser told Radio Liberty that he couldn’t receive visa to travel to Azerbaijan.

“The ministry phoned to the embassy in Germany to learn the issue. The embassy officials told us that Christoph Strasser didn’t apply for visa and therefore he couldn’t have visa problem. Strasser’s office was also informed about the issue and his office is investigating how his ideas were presented in the interview”, said Polukhov.

The ministry official said Azerbaijani ambassador to Germany Parviz Shahbazov proposed in his recent meeting with Strasser that he needs to visit Azerbaijan to investigate the problem of political prisoners. The German parliamentarian accepted his initiative.

“It is surprising that such interview was published. We are expecting now for reaction of the parliamentarian’s office”, said Polukhov.
