
“All-round development of relations with Azerbaijan is very important for Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are interested in expanding and strengthening our cooperation,” said visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sven Alkalaj in a meeting with First Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov.
Asgarov praised the FM`s visit to Azerbaijan and said this visit would contribute to developing relations between the two countries.
“After regaining independence Azerbaijan rapidly integrates into the Euro-Atlantic community. Azerbaijan also plays an important role in ensuring energy security of Europe,” said Ziyafat Asgarov.
The Azeri Deputy Chairman briefed Alkalaj on activity and international relations of the Milli Majlis.
He underlined the Parliament has more than 100 friendship groups with foreign countries, including with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Asgarov stressed the importance of boosting interparliamentary relations and reciprocal visits of MPs.
The Deputy Chairman informed the FM about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and thanked the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina for supporting Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Mr. Alkalaj said he held a number of important and productive meetings in Baku.
Rapid development of energy and non-oil sector in Azerbaijan amid the world economic crisis suggests happy future of Azerbaijan.
Alkalaj spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute and stressed Bosnia and Herzegovina also has a refugee problem.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina backs territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and his policy will not change. Azerbaijan may rely on the country`s support with regard to this issue within international organizations including UN,” he said.
During the meeting, they discussed prospects for cooperation between the countries.
They also exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest.
