Azerbaijani, Russian special services seize about a ton of Afghan hashish

The Russian Federal Drug Control Service in cooperation with the relevant bodies of Azerbaijan seized about a ton of Afghan hashish, which was intended for distribution in Russia, Federal Drug Control Service chief Viktor Ivanov said in Baku today. Ivanov is on visit to Baku on Jan.13-14.

"During the visit, we discussed issues of combating the global threat of drugs, drug prevention and issues to develop mechanisms for joint activities to combat drug trafficking," he said.

"We agreed with Azerbaijani National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov in assessment of the risk of traffic for our states - the criminalization of the situation, an increase in drug addiction, education, drug cartels and the sources of terrorist financing," Ivanov said.

The Russian Federal Drug Control Service and Azerbaijani Interior Ministry have signed the document on cooperation in fighting illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors between.
