Head of Azerbaijani Karabakh community: Armenians build airport in Nagorno-Karabakh for Azerbaijanis

07 December 2010 [14:55] - TODAY.AZ
Head of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh Bayram Safarov said Armenians build an airport in Nagorno-Karabakh for Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani people.
"The world has repeatedly stated that it recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and supports it," Safarov told journalists. "We built a lot of things for them, and they're using it all now. Armenia is not able to build an airport that can match the one in Azerbaijan, and when we return to our lands, we will shape up all the things they've created."

Armenian media reported that airport constructed in Khankendi will be commissioned in May 2011. The infrastructure of the airport's passenger terminal is ready.

According to the information, the equipment used in the construction of the airport was ordered and delivered from various countries. Separatists claim that the airport will make its first flights en route Yerevan-Khankendi-Yerevan. Later it is expected to expand the flights.

Regarding the information that the airport will carry out international flights, Safarov said the territory lacks area for the construction of international airport.

"We have lived there and we know that it is mountainous area, the climate also does not allow to build international airports," Safarov said.
