GUAM foreign ministers hold meeting

Chaired by the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Konstantin Gryshchenko, the GUAM Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held the 13th meeting within the OSCE summit in Astana,

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Andrei Popov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin, GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili.

Foreign Ministers discussed the implementation of the action plan of the organization till the end of 2010, discussed issues of cooperation within item 14 of the agenda of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly "Protracted conflicts in the GUAM" and their impact on international peace, security and development and the draft resolution entitled "Cooperation between the UN and GUAM, made a decision to approve plans for the interaction of diplomatic missions of the GUAM member states in other international organizations for the period of 2010-2011.

Foreign Ministers discussed the issues of sectoral cooperation, approved coordinator country of GUAM sectoral working groups for the period of 2011-2012, and made a decision to establish a joint commission for co-operation in the field of emergency prevention and liquidation on of their consequences.

Foreign Ministers discussed issues of cooperation between GUAM and partner countries, particularly the next meetings of GUAM-US and GUAM-Japan at the level of Council of National Coordinators (CNC), adopted the recommendations of the CNC on the platform of the second framework of GUAM-US and instructed to develop a similar platform for GUAM-Japan consultations.

Foreign Ministers discussed the issue of shifting the chairmanship to the organization and decided to appoint the Secretary General of GUAM for the next term. The next meeting of CFM is scheduled to take place in January-February 2011.
