Azerbaijan's Presidential Administration comments on WikiLeaks reports

“Recently, some data started to circulate on the WikiLeaks website. For the time being, I do not want to say anything about its contents. However, I was surprised at some views in those reports, being claimed to belong to the President of Azerbaijan at his meetings,” chief of international relations department of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov told APA while commenting on the reports released by WikiLeaks on behalf of Azerbaijani President.

Novruz Mammadov said he had attended all the political meetings of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, had been direct observer of the meetings.

“I also participated at the meeting of the Azerbaijani President with the Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns. I wish to point out that this meeting was dedicated concretely to the issues or the subject of this meeting consisted of two items: the first issue was the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, while the second one was the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and US. I would like to state that generally, it was always the case at the meetings held by the President of Azerbaijan: as a rule, the President of Azerbaijan speaks about the relations of Azerbaijan with the side represented at his meetings. During such meetings, the President of Azerbaijan does not speak about the third side or state. It was the same at the meeting with William Burns I referred previously. It means that there was no talk about any state except these two issues I noted,” he said.

Mammadov emphasized that it was strange to give such materials concerning the meeting with the undersecretary of state. “It means the negotiator is informed later about the talks he conducted. It seems there are forces who intend to damage relations between various states and they make already some attempts in this direction. This is a dangerous trend. The real status of our relations with the neighboring countries is known to everyone today. The steps we make with neighboring states in the field of bilateral co-operation are on the forefront. There is no need to prove that. The work done only with brotherly Turkey in these years are the most important and large projects of last decade at global level where the services rendered by President Ilham Aliyev in its implementation are exceptional. Maybe they changed the authors of the talks conducted at the level of foreign affairs and other ministries try exhibiting it more important for some reasons. On the other hand, appearance of such issues on the eve of OSCE Astana Summit makes us to think. It means that the coincidence of publication of these data with Summit puts questions in front of international community in general”.
