Azerbaijan attends 12th annual conference of Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe

The event provided a forum for Media and Press Council representatives to discuss topical issues, to exchange ideas and to offer and receive advice. Discussions focused on on-line issues, media accountability systems in EU member states as indicators for media pluralism in Europe, privacy, public interest and social networking, human rights and free speech, as well as relationship between press councils and the resident, independent ombudsmen.

Opening the conference, Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science Marjan Hammersma underlined the importance of the role of national press councils in media self-regulation.

The event participants heard reports by representatives of more than 30 countries.

Addressing the conference, chairman of Azerbaijan Press Council Aflatun Amashov spoke of what his organization had done so far.

Employee of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc) Firudin Agazade participated in the event.
