Azerbaijan Central Election Commission to provide each candidate with airtime

The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission will ensure the process of providing each candidate with airtime, Mazahir Panahov, the CEC chairman, told media today.
He said that the requirements of the legislation remain in force. Free airtime will be given to the parties with more than 60 registered candidates.

"The agitation process of candidates for MPs was launched today. Free air time will be allocated on the Public Television at 09:00," he said.

He said that the Public Television will give each candidate four minutes. The Public Television will give airtime every day from 21:00 to 23:00 (local time). He said that more than 700 candidates were registered for elections and those who will be restored by the CEC.

"The CEC is working closely over the applications. We are interested in restoring the most number of applicants in accordance with the legislation," he said.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.
