Azerbaijan, Germany expand legal cooperation

On the invitation of the Federal Minister of Justice of Germany in 2009 the Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan Fikret Mammadov visited this country in the course of which the parties signed Joint Statement on legal cooperation between the Ministries of Justice of two states.

In connection with implementation of the Statement the director of the Fund of the international legal cooperation at the Federal Ministry of Justice of Germany visited Azerbaijan. During the visit, discussed were the questions, concerning conducting concrete joint actions.

On the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Justice of Germany the delegation of Azerbaijan visited Berlin for participation in the workshop on theme “Exchange of experience on execution of judgments and punishments”. The delegation included supervising officials of Executive and Penitentiary Services, Inspections on Supervision of Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Justice, and also the judges, the Ministry`s press service reported.

At the seminar, the sides had useful exchange of opinions on activity of officials-executors and experience of execution of punishments in the form of imprisonment. Participants of the workshop took great interest in reforms conducted in Azerbaijan in justice system, including in the field of creation of modern penitentiary bodies, further improvement of performing work and acceptance of the new progressive legislation in this sphere. In this connection, German experts have been invited to Azerbaijan for the purpose of acquaintance with judicial-legal reforms carried out in the country and have exchange of experience.

During the seminar, the Azerbaijan delegation has familiarized with activity of the Federal Ministry of Justice of Germany, discussed cooperation questions.

For studying of the advanced international experience in the area of building of modern penitentiary complexes during visit the Azerbaijan jurists have visited establishment of serving of punishments in “Sharlottenburg”, Berlin, and familiarized with the conditions created there.
