Azerbaijan's ruling party condemns opposition leader's agreement signed with Armenians

13 October 2010 [17:47] - TODAY.AZ
The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) has condemned the Musavat party leader's agreement signed with the Armenians.
"We believe the agreement signed by Musavat Party Leader Isa Gambar with the Armenians is contrary to the Azerbaijani state and national interests. It is also contrary to the ideology of the Musavat party. Gambar uses the Musavat party for personal interests. We believe sensible people within the party will protest against Gambar's such steps," NAP Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov said at the news conference on Wednesday.

Gambar signed an agreement on cooperation with Armenian National Movement Board Chairman Aram Manukyan and Georgian Republican Party Chairman David Usupashvili in Potsdam.

The Armenian National Movement is one of Armenia's centers of ideological attacks on Azerbaijan, Ahmedov said.

"Armenia occupied the Azerbaijani lands just under the leadership of this movement. The agreement signed with them is directed against Azerbaijan," he added.

The establishment of relations with Armenia on the eve of the election has become a tradition for the opposition, Ahmedov said.

"They meet with the Armenians and sign a treaty with them on the eve of each parliamentary election. They do not expect support from the Azerbaijani voters, so waiting for support from the Armenians," Ahmedov said.
