Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met Iranian defense minister Ahmad Vahidi on October 11.

Mammadyarov praised relationship between Azerbaijan and Iran. He noted the two countries had great potential to expand cooperation in various spheres.
The Minister stressed the need to upgrade bilateral economic cooperation to the level of political ties. Mammadyarov also briefed the Iranian Defense Minister on the talks to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Ahmad Vahidi, in turn, said Azerbaijan and Iran were fraternal countries. He condemned the occupation of Azerbaijan`s territories and expressed hope that Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs would return to their native land.
The talks also revolved around other issues of mutual interest.
