05 October 2010 [11:34] - TODAY.AZ
The International Forum on Diplomatic Training [IFDT] was established in 1972, as a yearly Meeting of Deans and Directors of Diplomatic Academies and Institutes of International Relations. This forum was initiated by Diplomatic Academy in Vienna and Georgetown University in Washington DC. The Forum is an informal gathering for the discussion of issues of modern diplomacy and trends in diplomatic education.

The 38th Meeting which brought together 80 participants from 53 countries was devoted to the issues of regional diplomatic training, e-diplomacy and capacity development in diplomatic training. The experiences of diplomatic institutions from many countries were discussed at the Forum.

At the opening session, which was held at the historic Parliament building, Mr. Michael Frendo, the Speaker of the Parliament of Malta welcomed all participants. Rector of ADA, Dr. Hafiz Pashayev spoke at the first panel “Regional Diplomatic Training” together with the Prof. Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, Former President of Malta. The speakers emphasized that diplomacy is becoming more regional and discussed how the diplomatic training can assist the regional policy processes.

H. Pashayev informed about the recent developments in the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and said “that Diplomatic Training in 21st century can not be locked within national boundaries. We have to open it up to other cultures and countries in order to better learn from them and provide opportunities for our students to build long lasting relations from the early days of their diplomatic careers. I hope the example of ADA can be helpful in the work of other diplomatic academies”.

Rector suggested to host one of the upcoming Forum’s meeting in Baku.
